One of the biggest mysteries coming out of Guardians of the Galaxy is the identity of the father of Peter Quill aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt). Fans assumed the character would show up in the sequel, but director James Gunn teased that Peter's dad could arrive sooner than that.
Gunn made an interesting comment during a promotional stop in Bangkok to promote Guardians of the Galaxy. When asked if fans would definitely see Star-Lord's dad in the sequel, Gunn replied, "He'll be showing up soon." This is far from direct confirmation that his dad would appear before the sequel, but Gunn has said that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 would deal with the relationship between Peter and his father. So why, then, didn't he just simply say yes when asked this question?
As a refresher, here's what Gunn said to Empire about Star-Lord's dad. "There have been a lot of documents passed around about who Peter Quill's father is between a select two or three of us," he said. "That's been part of the plan since the beginning, that's something I had to work out before we shot the screenplay. We wanted to make sure Yondu's place in everything made sense and it does, so it's all very specific stuff."
The site then asked if J'son, aka Json of Spartax, Peter Quill's father in the comics, is a possibility. "It's definitely not the character who is in the comics. I'll say that much," Gunn offered.
We also know from the movie that Quill's father is "a jackass," according to Yondu, played by Michael Rooker. Peter's mother also said on her deathbed that his father was an angel composed of pure light, and we know Peter is not entirely human because he was able to touch the Infinity Stone without disintegrating.
Who do you think Star-Lord's father is? When will we see him? Let us know in the comments below.
