After an incredible pilot introducing us to the doctors and staff of Steven Soderbergh's The Knick, what can we expect as we preview episode 2, "Mr. Paris Shoes." We assume the title references Algernon Edwards (André Holland), so is Thackery (Clive Owen) continuing to give him a hard time? What else can we expect from the other characters? Let's take a look at some advanced photos and clips from Cinemax for this weekend's new episode. [SPOILERS to follow]

Though he's backed by the Hospital, and specifically Cornelia Robertson (Juliet Rylance), it seems Dr. Edwards will continue to struggle to get on Thackery's good side. In "Mr. Paris Shoes," Edwards offers up a procedure he learned in Europe as more patients at "the Knick" keep dying. Obviously Thackery isn't going to just accept this offer.

As we can tell from this new preview clip from Cinemax, Edwards has a big struggle in front of him and Cornelia is livid with the doctors regarding this treatment:

Another obstacle in everyone's way this week is the lack of electricity. Nonetheless, Thackery gets the seedy superintendent, Herman Barrow (Jeremy Bobb), to acquire more cadavers for surgical procedures. As we can tell from the cover photo of this article, he has to deal with ambulance operator Tom Cleary (Chris Sullivan) to do so.

Also - will Thackery fall into his drug habit again?

From what we can tell, the rest of season one will surely elaborate on the struggles of each character and show us just how much of a genius Dr. John Thackery is. Hopefully he'll go easier on Algernon, but who knows!
