'Grey's Anatomy' Season 11 Spoilers- Is Meredith Leaving Derek? Shonda Rhimes Teases Fate Of The Show's Power Couple

When we lest left the halls of Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) were facing quite the ultimatum. On the season ten finale of Grey's Anatomy Derek accepted a job in Washington, D.C. working for the President, and Meredith told him she wasn't going with him.

So what does this mean for the power couple of Grey's Anatomy?

Creator Shonda Rhimes opened up about what fans can expect to see from Mer and Der, when the medical drama returns for it's eleventh season this fall.

"I don't think that it's a marriage-ending argument," the creator told Entertainment Weekly. "It feels very TV for people's marriages to end over easy things or hard things. I actually would like to watch a couple have a hard time in their marriage, and have it not be that this means their marriage is over.

"There's something really great about watching a couple have a mature marriage where stuff goes wrong," she added. "Things are hard and people try to push through it and figure it out."

But don't think that just because they are probably going to stay together, that everything will be fine for the couple.

"When we left them, they were fighting," Shonda teases. "When we come back, they're still fighting. I like that they're having this argument. It feels like an argument that two hard-working people have who love each other and who each have powerful careers."

We also have even juicier spoilers from TVLine. According to site, Meredith is going to turn to her longtime friend Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) to help her get through this hardship, but does that mean that she will be stepping out on Derek with the former bad boy.

Shonda gives fans a reason to breath a sigh of relief by saying that no way will this friendship become something more.

"Alex feels responsible for her," Rhimes tells TVLine. "He feel like Cristina didn't just leave him a seat on the board, and the shares, she left him Meredith as well."

However, Meredith's involvement with her new besties, Alex, will definitely cause some trouble in his relationship with Jo (Camilla Luddington).

"Jo is going to be horrified to discover how much time Alex is going to be spending with Meredith, and how much time Meredith is going to be spending [at their] house."
