The CW's Arrow returns for Season 3 on Oct. 8, and fans of the Emerald Archer are eagerly awaiting the return of the characters in Starling City. Multiple stories broke in the Arrow world this week, so let's get to them.
Firstly, fans will recall that one of Moira Queen's final appearances on the show revealed she paid off a woman whom Oliver (Stephen Amell) had gotten pregnant in the past to leave town with the child and never return. Of course, most fans assume this woman will be back at some point, and some fans have kicked around the theory that the child is Connor Hawke, the Green Arrow's estranged son from the comics.
Executive producer Marc Guggenheim spoke to TVLine about that possibility. "Half of our job is coming up with ideas, and the other half is exercising judgment in terms of the right time to play those ideas," he said. "We also need to have that moment happen in the right context. So is it Year 3, is it Year 10...? I don't know. We've put it out there and we've got some cool ideas about where to go with it, should we do it, but we haven't committed to actually doing it or even when to do it."
Amell revealed last month that he came up with the idea for how to reintroduce this plot thread, so keep that in mind when it does happen.
Next, EW.com reports the show has changed the title of the upcoming episode focused on Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) and her backstory. The episode was originally called "Oracle" but is now titled "The Secret Origin of Felicity Smoak."
This episode introduces Felicity's mother, played by NYPD Blue's Charlotte Ross. "We've established in the past that mom is a cocktail waitress in Vegas," executive producer Marc Guggenheim told EW. "She and Felicity are two very different people. Episode 5, which is when Felicity's mom comes to town, really deals with the differences between these two women and how much of their relationship is a struggle as a result. It's a real challenge for these two people to find some common ground." We'll also learn a bit about Felicity's dad. "The mystery of who Felicity's dad is probably gets extended more than it gets answered," he said.
Finally, Harley Quinn appeared briefly in the "Suicide Squad" episode of Season 2, which led some fans to believe the character would appear in a future installment. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg spoke to Comic Book Resources and said fans should not necessarily expect a complete appearance in the future because of other plans for the character.
"I don't know about that," he said. "There are very few things we've asked DC Comics for that we haven't gotten. That was something you asked for, and what you saw is a compromise that Geoff Johns and I came up with. To even get that much was a thrill for us. I know that they may have other plans for her, but it was certainly an Easter egg that thrilled us. But the Suicide Squad will definitely be back. Whether we see the 'deranged female killer' we saw before, we'll have to wait and see."
The "they" he mentions is presumably Warner Bros., so perhaps the character will show up in another television property or movie, such as Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice?
What do you make of all this Arrow news? Do you think we will see Oliver's son soon? Is he Connor Hawke? What do you think we will learn about Felicity in her episode? Will Harley Quinn appear in the flesh on Arrow? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
