VH1 and DoSomething.org announced on Friday that Flo Rida and fun. will be performing at the 2012 Do Something Awards along with presenters Ashley Greene and Jordan Sparks on Tuesday, August 21.
The Do Something Awards, which premiered in 1996, honors the nation's best young world-changers aged 25 and under. The Doing Something nominees and winners (trending as #DSawards on Twitter) represent the crucial "do-ers" in their field, cause, or issue. A Do Something Awards Academy (which is comprised of former winners) and Do Something Awards Team (comprised of staff) narrow applicants down to five semi-finalists, who are honored at the awards and receive a minimum of $10,000 in community grants and scholarships. The grand prize winner picked from the group of finalists is bestowed the Do Something Award and receives a total of $100,000 in community grants. The show also awards celebrities who use their fame towards promoting a good cause.
As reported by VH1 CEO of DoSomething.org Nancy Lublin stated, "We honor, we pay tribute, we reward...and we jam! With eight top ten hits, Flo Rida and the indie band that incorporates our mantra, be young and Fun., we are all sure to have an awesome time!"
Hip-hop artist Flo Rida is best known for his dance-worthy hits "Right Round" and "In the Ayer." The alternative rock band fun. found recent fame with their summer hit "We Are Young."
The Do Something Awards will be hosted by New Girl's stars Jack Johnson, Max Greenfield, and Lamorne Morris and includes a star-studded ballot among a variety of categories, including Scarlett Johansson for "Do Something Movie Star, Female" Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan for "Celebrity Do Something Couple," Tim Tebow for "Do Something Athlete," and Lady Gaga for "Do Something Award, Twitter."
Voting for celebrities is still open at the Do Something Awards website, and be sure to check out performances by Flo Rida and fun. on Tuesday, August 21 at 9 p.m. ET.
