Atlanta Exes, star, Monyetta Shaw is finally clearing the air and revealing what exactly happened between her and singer Ne-Yo after they ended their relationship more than a year ago.
According to Sister 2 Sister, fans found out about the split when Ne-Yo posted a message on Instagram during the 2013 BET Awards. He appeared on the red carpet with another woman, and noted that he was no longer with the mother of his two kids.
However, on Monday night's premiere of Atlanta Exes, Monyetta revealed that a phone call between the couple that confirmed their breakup.
Monyetta claims that their split wasn't due to just one conversation but mulitple.
"We broke everything off two months before the infamous Instagram post," Monyetta revealed. "We talked about it and I told him, 'I think it's a great idea to just get your publicist, just come out with a statement. That will be the classy way to do it.' For whatever reason, he chose to do it his way BET weekend and the world went crazy," she explained.
As the singer's fans found out via Instagram, Monyetta got the news that she and Ne-Yo were over by phone.
"We broke up amongst ourselves, and it happened to be on the phone," the reality star said. "He did and it stung a little; however, he was at home the week after and we sat down and discussed everything. It wasn't crazy, fussing and fighting type thing. We're two adults, and we handle ourselves in that way. Yes, emotions were high. I didn't see it coming, but people change."
Despite the breakup Monyetta claims that she appreciated the father of her children for being honest with her and revealing that he wasn't ready for a monogamous relationship; although, she still doesn't understand why he wouldn't.
"All I know is marriage. My mom and dad, they've been together for 43 years. That's all I know. I will say I was crushed by it, but hey, I do believe everything happens for a reason, and I'm moving through this thing," Monyetta said. The former fiancee of Ne-Yo still shares a house with the singer, where she and his family along with the singer raises their two kids.
"Because he's away more than he's here, it's not as painful and as hard, but in the beginning it was kind of difficult because all I saw was what we were," she shared.
Luckily, Monyetta has a wonderful support system that was seen on Monday night's premiere that includes her co-stars, and Ne-Yo's family.
"All the ladies are pretty darn amazing," as she shouted out the ladies of Atlanta Exes, which includes, Tameka Raymond, Christina Johnson, Sheree Buchanan and Torrei Hart. "I have a tight relationship with mostly all the women on the show. They're all amazing. They're strong and beautiful women. It's refreshing to have a bond with them. I'm the more recent breakup. They were able to help guide me through it because they knew what it looked like first hand."
VH1's Atlanta Exes is on every Monday night, 9 p.m. EST.
