Teen Mom star Amber Portwood hasn't had an easy go of it in the last few years. The reality star has openly battled drug addictions on the MTV series and has also spent 17 months in jail because of her drug charges. In her latest book Never Too Late, Portwood is opening up even further about her battle with substance abuse, saying that she still struggles even today with staying sober.
Her battle to stay sober started the day that she as released from prison she tells RadarOnline.
"The first day I was out... it's whenever things are overwhelming for me, or any sort of emotion- sadness, depression, anything- it is very easy to go back to doing drugs because you don't want to feel that way," she explained to the news site. "You just have to stay strong and remember what you're doing and move forward."
For Amber, who was released from prison in November on good behavior, she says that moving forward for her including getting away from the bad influences and old friends in her life.
"I don't go out really," the Teen Mom star explained. "I stay with my friends and family, I moved 20 minutes away to a small town- and I'm just trying to do everything right."
It seems that Amber has gained a lot of prospective into her drug addiction, during her time in prison, where she completed 500 hours of a rehab class. She says that she knew that temptations she would face once she was released so it wasn't too much of a shock to her.
"The one thing about an addict is that there's so many temptations and if you know your temptations, you stay away from it," she reveals.
"It does bother me on an almost everyday basis but it is starting to get easier," she explains.
