The season 8 premiere of BBC's highly loved series Doctor Who airs this weekend, Aug. 23 (on BBC America). This first episode is called "Deep Breath," which is fitting since Whovians the world over are probably holding their respective breaths waiting for the first adventure of the 12th Doctor in the form of Peter Capaldi. We decided to make a short list of reasons why the hype around this new episode is just and why we can't wait to see what Capaldi can do!

Reason Number 1 - The return of "The Impossible Girl," Clara Oswald

Jenna Coleman portrays the current companion of The Doctor, Clara, and she's one of the most interesting. She took us all on a whirlwind of confusion with the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith, who found her to be one of the strangest anomalies he's ever seen - and that's saying A LOT.

With Smith's regeneration in Capaldi, Clara was rushed so quickly into a new adventure, and with such little time with her close friend. How will she deal with Capladi's 12th Doctor? That is obviously a huge draw for the upcoming episodes and that is why she opens out list!

Reason Number 2 - Showrunner Steven Moffat wrote the episode and Ben Wheatley is directing

Though we could've guessed that Moffat would pen the season 8 premiere episode, that doesn't mean we shouldn't be excited about it. The executive producer has a lot to prove to his loyal fans, so taking the reigns and writing the season opener is a big deal! There's a lot on the line for him, especially with a new lead actor to work with for the first time as showunner.

Wheatley is just icing on the cake. The acclaimed director (Kill List) has the same amount of pressure on his soldiers as Moffat, in that he has to win over the devoted Whovians in one episode and then bring them back for his other episode later on in the series, "Into the Dalek."

Reason Number 3 - Moffat wants to "reinvent" the entire series this year

Doctor Who fans will be the first to admit that change is good. We've gone through so many Doctors over the years and haven't had much to complain about! So when Steven Moffat revealed he hopes to "reinvent" Doctor Who this year, Whovians weren't too worried. Bring it on!

Reason Number 4 - Returning characters, friends and foes!

We know we'll see the Daleks and the Cybermen, but we also get to see Madame Vastra and her crew! Who else will come back throughout the season? We'll be watching to find out!

Reason Number 5 - Peter Capaldi, duh!

When news broke in the summer of 2013 that Capaldi would be replacing Smith, Whovians were quite pleased. Capaldi revealed that he was a huge fan of the iconic series and has watched ever since he was a child. Considering he's 56 years old, he's been watching for quite some time.

His age also plays a huge factor in the change of Doctor Who's feel: Smith was the youngest Doctor, so jumping back into having an older actor play the lead was a bold move. Certain elements of romance and other similar aspects will probably be thrown out the window with this new season - and that's a good thing!

Plus, Capaldi's keeping his Scottish accent.
