Diem Brown from Real World/Road Rules Challenge fame, has had to battle through ovarian cancer twice within the last nine years. Now she is about to face another tough battle as she has just been diagnosed with colon cancer.
According to PEOPLE, during filming for a new reality series, Brown fainted and was taken to a hospital in New York where she underwent emergency surgery.
Her sister, Megan, spoke to the magazine and revealed some details about the surgery.
"Doctors found one tumor blocking her colon completely so they had to do emergency surgery that evening to remove the blockage," she explained. "They were also able to remove the mass, but once they were inside they found out there were multiple tumors."
The star is not out of the woods yet, as three days after the initial surgery she had to go back into the operating room after complications caused her to develop an infection in her abdomen.
She is currently recovering in the hospital, where she will be closely watched by doctors for the next two weeks.
Her sister reveals that this is a scary time for the whole family but that Diem hasn't lost her spirit.
"She's in and out. She's on a lot of medication but every once and awhile you'll see her spirit, the light back in her eyes. The second surgery was two steps back, but hopefully in the next few weeks she'll be well enough to start chemo."
Diem has also been an advocate for cancer research and awareness over the last years as she documented her second battle with ovarian cancer on a blog for PEOPLE.com.
The reality star was first diagnosed with the disease at 23 and underwent surgery to remove lymph nodes, one of her ovaries, and sections of her fallopian tube nine years ago. She told PEOPLE a few weeks back, that because of her cancer she appreciates life more.
"Cancer has changed who I am," the star now 32 explains. "It sound like a cliché, but I've only got this one life, and I need to live every day to the fullest. I'm a lot more appreciative of things now."
"She's such a fighter. She's tough as nails," her sister says. "This is the third time she's had to deal with this and she's ready for it. It's definitely and uphill battle, but I know if anybody can do it it's her."
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Diem and her family during this difficult time.
