Police have revealed that a 38-year-old man was pronounced dead, after being shot multiple times during a Wiz Khalifa concert in a Silicon Valley music venue, according to Billboard.
Shino Tanaka, police spokeswoman for Mountain View, Calif. announced that the shooting occurred backstage at Shoreline Amphitheatre, where the rapper, Wiz Khalifa was performing on Friday night. The unknown victim passed away at a nearby hospital on Saturday, as police scrambled to find witnesses to the shooting.
The officers were searching for a male suspect believed to be in his 20s. According to TMZ, one eyewitness revealed that the gunman and the victim had an dispute backstage right before shots were fired.
The drama, leading to one death happened as the show was ending, while Wiz was onstage. The victim, and the gunman were in the dark in a hallway where surveillance video would be no good. Backstage staff, and others were held and questioned by police for at least 3-4 hours.
Cops don't believe the incident had anything to do with Wiz.
Tanaka, shared with KTVU that authorities are clueless to how the gun made its way into the amphitheater, where everyone has to undergo security screening.
Wiz Khalifa's performance for Saturday night in Chula Vista, Calif. was cancelled soon after. A Ticketmaster employee revealed that the performance was cancelled, with no details given.
Despite the shooting having no connection with Wiz, fans were probably confused to why he would cancel his performance that was supposed to be held on Saturday.
Wiz cleared the speculation by making a statement. The rapper said, "Due to a situation out of our control, tonight's UTIOM show is cancelled. This was a senseless tragedy. Violence is never the answer. My prayers go out to the victim's family."
