Carolina Panthers star quarterback Cam Newton this week suffered an injury that has his team and plenty of Fantasy Football participants freaking out. The "no sliding" NFL star has a hairline fracture in one of his ribs, thus sidelining him for the Panther's pre-season game against the Steelers this week. Coach Ron Rivera has insisted that Cam will be back for week one of the 2014 - 2015 season, but a rib injury isn't something to rush.
The news broke this week on the Panther's official Twitter account. Check out the tweet right here:
Rivera says Cam Newton has a hairline fracture in one of his ribs. Newton won't play vs. Steelers. Rivera thinks he'll be ready for Week 1.

Meanwhile, Cam is resting up, with Rivera hoping his QB will be back to 100% in time for the Panther's season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next month. "I'm not going to control the things I can't control," Newton said earlier this week, according to the Charlotte Observer. "I'm going to do the things I know I can control, and that's to keep coming in each day for treatment ... and be as coachable as possible as well." Newton's ankle has also been giving him trouble, so adding that onto the recent rib injury definitely isn't good news for Panthers fans. Check out what coach Rivera has to say about his injured team roster in another tweet from the Panthers:
