While Yahoo and Microsoft were in a bidding war to buy Twitch, Amazon stepped in, brokering up its own deal of about $1 billion dollars. With the buyout taking place, Twitch's very own CEO, Emmett Shear and Michael Frazzini, vice of president of Amazon Games, promises that this buyout will not harm the way PlayStation and Xbox users use the game-streaming service.
Twitch offers gamers to transmit games over Twitch by using their PCs along with consoles. Viewers watch more than 16 billion minutes of its videos streaming each month. More than 1.1 million unique broadcasters use Twitch to stream video. Professional gamers have covered live tournaments, practice sessions, and held Q&As about techniques.
Shear posted news about the money-making deal on the official website, "Today, I'm pleased to announce we've been acquired by Amazon. We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster."
Though we're sure how Twitch will fit in with Amazon, which we also mentioned here also acquired ComiXology. With the buyouts of ComiXology and Twitch, it's safe to say people will be flocking more to these sites.
The CEO promises nothing will change because of the acquisition, "We're keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon's support we'll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch."
In an interview with Daily Dot, Frazzini continues to reassure videogames, "Twitch is absolutely doing a great job and we don't want to change that at all."
According to Techcrunch, the final price is nearly $970M.
