Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow character from the Marvel cinematic universe films is the subject of standalone movie rumors, which certainly isn't a bad idea. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, director Neil Marshall (Game of Thrones episode "Blackwater") expressed his desire to take on this project, explaining it would be a great "female superhero movie" for any director to take on.
"I would love to do a Black Widow movie. That's perfect," he said. "I would love to do that. That character is really interesting, she doesn't have any superpowers, she just has extraordinary skills, and the world that she comes from, being this ex-K.G.B. assassin, I find that really fascinating, yeah."
Marshall taking on a project like this would be pretty exciting for the movie world. But before we get too excited about this project, Marshall admits that a superhero movie isn't his ideal film project to work on.
"I'm less interested in people with superpowers because I can't identify with them. Very rarely do they get killed off, and when they do get killed off, chances are they're going to be back . . . somehow," Marshall said. "Yes, I'd love to do a big splashy movie with a great female lead, but it has to be someone I can believe in."
