For violating NFL's policies, San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith has been suspended for the first 9 games of the upcoming season. As the months go by and when Smith is eligible to return, will the 49ers suffer a losing streak, costing the team their match against the New Orleans Saints?
As previously reported here, the football player was arrested on an alleged fake bomb threat back in April. Though no charges were pressed before, this time around is different. As explained by USA Today, there will be absolute punishment for the athlete after disobeying personal conduct and substance abuse policies.
Four games for substance abuse and five games for personal conduct totals 9 games missed. The sports star will lose approximately $1.24 million of his $2.34 million annual salary. While keeping him sidelined from the games, the team will lose their best player at sacking the quarterback.
General manager Trent Baalke tells ESPN, "Aldon has taken responsibility for his actions and has continued to show growth personally and professionally. We will continue to support him, but it is time to put this matter behind us and focus on the season ahead."
Though the linebacker will be able to attend meetings, he will not be able to practice with his teammates. By the time Smith returns to the lineup as an active player, the team may or may not have been defeated by the Saints on November 9. Will he come back to open arms or bitterness by his teammates?
Aldon Smith will miss out on 9 games when the San Francisco 49ers will kick off the season in Dallas on September 7. Readers, what do you think of Smith's suspension?
