Shadow of the Colossus has to be one of the most beloved video games of the last 10 years, so a movie adaptation might not be too welcome. Fortunately for fans of the series, a great director has been chosen to take on the film: Andy Muschietti. The filmmaker directed the horror film Mama and also co-wrote the action, thriller Hanna. We're in for an amazing ride with this project!
The Hollywood Reporter broke this news, explaining that Muschietti's Hanna writing partner, Seth Lochhead, is currently drafting a script for this video game adaptation with the director supervising any other changes as the project progresses.
Originally, this project was supposed to go to Josh Trank, but he is currently busy with the Fantastic Four reboot project.
Here is a description of the video game from Slash Film:
"[It] features a young male protagonist who is told that his dead love can be revived if only he kills a collection of giant beasts that reside across the countryside. He does so without question, and the player is left to eventually wonder if the kid is being played. Visually austere yet stunning, the game was a critical hit and has endured as one of the masterpieces of the PlayStation 2 generation."
