Given that the hit singing-reality show "American Idol" is losing all of its former judges (Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are moving on entirely from the show, and it is said that the last-standing original judge Randy Jackson will take on a mentoring roll), rumors are now bubbling that the former Disney star Nick Jonas and N.E.R.D. rap-sensation Pharrell Williams are preparing to take on the judges' hot seat.
It was confirmed earlier this month that pop star Mariah Carey will be replacing Jennifer Lopez, which means Tyler and Jackson's spots are still up for grabs. Although rumors of Jackson's transition from judge to mentor are still yet to be confirmed, if Jonas and Williams do decide to join the cast, it will definitely add a younger and fresh atmosphere to the cast.
An insider told US Weekly that, "Nick is pretty close to signing to be the Idol judge. They flew him in to L.A. last week for final meetings."
Jonas, the multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter who reached worldwide fame with his two brothers Joe and Kevin, has recently ended a successful run on Broadway. Williams, front man for the hip-hop band N.E.R.D. as well as a rapper for The Neptunes, has helped produce hit records for pop stars such as Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.
The same insider source confirmed that Williams' contract is "looking good... but they're still working out details."
Following Carey's announcement that she will be joining the season 12 "American Idol" cast, it was reported that she ultimately signed a $18 million deal with the hit show.
