Friends alum Jennifer Aniston hit the red carpet on Monday at the Toronto Film Festival to promote her new film Cake. The 45-year-old actress stopped by the Variety studio on Monday to talk about her latest role and why it was her dream to play it.
Jennifer hit the red carpet with fiancé Justin Theroux as the rowdy crowd screamed. "'You want us to sit down?' Aniston joked in a black sleeveless dress and major black heels as she stood on stage," Toronto Sun reported on Monday.
"Director Daniel Barnz, on stage with his stars, asked a favor of Aniston [... ] to take a video of the crowd saying Happy Birthday to his 13-year-old daughter Zelda. Afterwards, Aniston joked: 'It's out of focus!'" the publication revealed.
The We're The Millers actress told Variety in her interview that although Cake was tough to film; it was "beyond her dream role."
The film, which also stars Anna Kendrick and Sam Worthington is about Jennifer's character Claire Simmons, who is in massive chronic pain and addicted to medication. Because of her pain and addiction she alienates everyone she knows.
"She basically has to decide whether she wants to live or die," Jennifer said to the publication. "The woman's journey is so heartbreaking but so uplifting, because she's gone through a trauma but maintains her wit, which is very endearing."
Jennifer revealed she knew she was going to take the role as soon as she read the script, but it was definitely a challenge.
"[Every movement for the character is painful] which was hard on my body for five weeks of shooting. I spent weekends seeing a chiropractor and getting massages and trying to maintain my sanity," she explained.
This role is outside Jen's comfort zone and might come as a shock to some people based on her appearance and rawness in the indie film.
"With greasy hair, no makeup and a fire she's never before displayed on screen, Aniston's riveting performance brought a Canadian audience to its feet at its Toronto premiere Monday," People reported.
The Golden Globe-winning actress summed up the drama to Variety by saying, that Cake is the "little indie that could."
