After making their announcement on ABC's The View, Marvel Comics proudly presents their first look at Thor #1. Writer Jason Aaron (Scalped) and artist Russell Dauterman (Cyclops) will be introducing an all-new superhero, the Female Thor, to readers in an all-new action-packed series.
As mentioned here, there will be a brand new and mysterious God of Thunder. A major change will take place in the inscription of Thor's hammer, the Mjolnir. As repeated by actor Anthony Hopkins in Kenneth Brannagh's feature film adaptation, the original words state, "Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."
Notice how just a single letter makes all the difference. The great hammer lies on the surface of the moon, unable to be lifted by anyone worthy. An army of Frost Giants are invading Earth, causing all sorts of major destruction upon the innocent civilians.
With the male Thunder God missing in action, someone has to pick up the Earth and save the earthlings. Previously, Captain America was the only other person honorable enough to possess the legendary weapon, but he's busy with his own mission.
Aaron explains the gender change, "This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is Thor. This is the Thor of the Marvel Universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before,"
The Marvel Universe is heading towards exciting new directions, and no comic book fan should be missing out on these bold new stories.
Thor #1 is expected to be released in October. Readers, are you excited to meet the Female Thor?
