Just in time for the last hurrah of the summer, the Travel Channel is breaking down the best road trips of 2014. However, with fall just around the corner some of these locales are the prefect location for taking in some picturesque views with that special someone. The list takes us all around the globe from the French Alps, to Mexican canyons and even to some gorgeous spots right here in the United States.
Annecy, France- This road trip starts off around Lake Annecy near the French Alps and has the adventurer driving through some of Europe's quaintest lakeside towns including Geneva, Switzerland, as they make their way to their final destination of Italy. As the driver continues their journey through France they will come across canal bridges, hillside castles and cute restaurants to stop at for a snack.
Cheddar Gorge, Somerset, England- Take in some of the gorgeous sites of the English countryside on this road trip as you start your journey in Cornwall at Tintagel Castle and make your way through the town of Boscastle on your way to Bath. Your final stop will be in Cheddar Gorge, where cheddar cheese was originally made in the caves and waterfalls of this town.
Creel, Mexico to Batopilas, Mexico- This trip will take you through canyons as you travel from the town of Creel to Batopilas. As you travel from the top of the canyon to the bottom you will whined around dirt roads and take in some truly spectacular views. Drivers should also be aware of the livestock in these parts as cattle, donkey and goats will most likely cross your path as you make your way down the mountainside.
Glacier National Park, Montana- This 50-mile road trip is definitely an iconic one. Being called the "Going to the Sun Road," this drive is one of the best ways to see this national park. The best time to see this locale would be during the fall when all the leaves begin to change colors.
Michigan's Gold Coast- This road trip is all about the Michigan beaches. As you travel down Michigan's "Gold Coast," you'll encounter Lake Michigan, Grand Haven, Saugatuck and South Haven, some of the best beaches in the US. If you get a chance to sample the food, these beaches have some of the freshest seafood in America.
Rapid City, South Dakota to Devil's Tower, Wyoming- This road trip is only 110 miles long, starting in Rapid City and traveling through forest and mountains before getting to Devil's Tower, which was actually used in the movie, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia- Home to the world's largest salt flat, Salar de Uyuni is definitely a natural wonder. The trip, which is a short plane ride from La Pez, Bolivia will include staying in a hotel that is constructed out of salt. The roads, also made of salt, will most likely be the smoothest roads one will ever ride on, but be cautious of altitude sickness as this location has an altitude of 12,500 feet
San Juan Skyway- Colorado- During this road trip, you will get to see some of Colorado's best old mining towns including Telluride, Silverton, and Ouray as you make you way along the "Road to the Sky." You will get to see stunning views of Colorado as you make your way to an elevation of 14,000 feet.
Oahu, Hawaii- This trip is all about the beaches. Take some time out to not only make your way to some of the local spots including famed North Shore as well as Sunset Beach and Lanikai Beach, but also traveling to attractions along Kamehameha Highway including Halona Blowhole, Tropical Farms' Macademia Nut Farm and Waimea Bay.
Puglia, Italy- This road trip will have you traveling along 250 miles of olive groves, fishing towns and also taking in the view of the breathtaking Adriatic Sea. This location is less touristy then other regions of Italy and is best to explore at a slow pace. Make sure to stop at attractions such as Vieste's Castle, and Baris Grotta Palazzese.
