Now in its eighth week at the no. 1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100, Carly Rae Jepsen's hit pop tune "Call Me Maybe" is currently tied for being this 2012's longest leading no. 1 single.
Jepsen must beat out Gotye's catchy track "Somebody that I Used to Know" in order to come out on top.
Pretty impressive for both artists, considering it almost took Rihanna all year for her 2011 hit "We Found Love" to hit the no. 1 spot for eight solid weeks.
Jepsen's follow-up single featuring the electronic musician Owl City and entitled "Good Time" is already gaining way, as it's currently ranked at no. 13 on the charts.
Both Jepsen and Gotye are nominated for MTV's VMAs which will air this September. Jepsen will try to win it out as Best New Artist while Gotye is up for Video of the Year.
Check back in week nine to see if Jepsen manages to overpower Gotye's past winning streak!
