Another version of the 2013 track, "Easy Easy" from Archie Marshall's King Krule project, has been covered by none other than 13-year-old Willow Smith.
Smith joins Ratking, Earl Sweatshirt and Travi$ Scott as artists who have covered the British musicians music. Will Smiths daughter was compared by hip hop mogul Jay Z to the likes of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder (both starting their music careers at young ages.) The young singer once told Teen Vouge that her work was different, "It's going to be something outlandish, something that nobody can imagine, something that comes form me and only me. Something we need right now."
The "Whip My Hair" single was Smith's breakout song back in 2010, selling more than a million digital copies. She was then compared to being a "baby Rihanna" and the kid friendly aspect of her music was hit amongst young kids and parents. It was after this song that it was announced Smith was signed a record deal with Jay Z and Roc Nation.
This new track from Archie Marshall confirms the young artists different style which sets her apart within the hard to breakthrough industry. The song includes very few elements, which include an electric guitar and Smiths voice. Numerous music reviewers have coined King Krule's music as "unusual transcendence and appropriation of disparate genres." It's a mix of punk jazz, jazz, fusion, darkwave, post punk and hip-hop.
Archie Marshall (King Krule) told Interview Magazine, "I chose music because it seemed like the right thing," Marshall explains. "I was always trying to create. I guess I was creating music from quite a young age, but I'm not sure what the earliest is. It all sort of merges together. The sunny days I used to have a balcony and chill on that, play a lot by myself."
No wonder Smith chose Marshall's music to cover. They have many connections as young artists.
Smith's only other song to drop this year was "8"
