A squad of police, fire, and rescue dispatchers arrived at Miley Cyrus' San Fernando Valley home Wednesday evening ready to take on a possible robber or home invader. But all the hype turned out to be for nothing once police determined that the initial caller - who insisted that a kidnapping and shooting were currently taking place on the premises - was just a prankster looking to cause some serious trouble.
According to the North Hollywood LAPD police, whoever called in the false report at approximately 6:50 p.m. PT on Wednesday claimed that the crime-in-progress also involved gunshots being fired at the pop star's home.
Once arrived on the scene, officers formed a perimeter around the property and slowly approached the house. However, all seemed too eerily quiet for any foul-play to be taking place inside. Upon further inspection the police found that no one was in or around the home (Cyrus was last spotted in Philadelphia, where her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth is currently shooting his newest film).
The police confirm that the only crime committed here is something that goes by the phrase "swatting" - when a "911 abuser" attempts to trick law enforcement to dispatch units by calling in a serious crime, which only proves to be a false alarm in the end.
Such "swatting" can lead to some serious repercussions. A LAPD spokesperson told E! News that, "If the person is found, they will be arrested and prosecuted because it was a false call, a false allegation."
The LAPD are now undergoing an investigation as to who placed the call. Cyrus and her representatives have yet to release a statement on the matter.
