After having mastered both TV and film, Judd Apatow is now making his way to Netflix. The This Is 40 writer-director just nabbed himself a two-season order from Netflix on a comedy series of his creation that will star Paul Rust (I Love You, Beth Cooper) and Community lead Gillian Jacobs, according to Deadline.
The site notes that Netflix has ordered ten episodes of the "relationship comedy" – now titled LOVE – for season one, which will air in 2016, and 12 episodes for season two, coming the following year.
Apatow reportedly co-created the series alongside Rust and Brooklyn Nine-Nine writer Lesley Arfin. The show will be produced by both Apatow Productions and Legendary Television. The Office's own Brent Forrester will be joining the trio as an executive producer.
Deadline states that LOVE is about Gus and Mickey (Rust and Jacobs), a couple who experiences "the exhilaration and humiliations of intimacy, commitment , and other things that they were hoping to avoid."
On Apatow, Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos claims, "Judd Apatow has a unique comedic voice that manages to be delightful, insightful and shockingly frank –– often at the same time. Together with Paul and Lesley, he's bringing a whole new level of agony and ecstasy to this modern day comedy of manners."
So, who is excited? We know Apatow is! He recently tweeted the below, congratulating both Rust and Arfin on the order.
Congrats @lesleyarfin on our @netflix show LOVE getting picked up for two seasons! @paulrust Do we have to write them now? Today? Tomorrow?
