Slightly Stoopid Releases 4 Tracks from "Top of the World"

Slightly Stoopid goes all-out reggae on their upcoming album "Top of the World," set to be released August 14.

The California-bred Slightly Stoopid seems to have spanned the whole skate scene - from punk to dub to psychedelic rock to reggae. And they've done it awesomely. The band, who originially signed on with Sublime front man Bradley Nowell's label Skunk Records, released a downloadable 4-track sneak peak for their upcoming album "Top of the World." The lead single of the same name was first released back in July - a chill, laidback tune perfect for those lazy hot summer days. Slightly Stoopid manages to jump from different stylistic sounds while still maintaining their own fun, cool, energetic style.

The other three released tracks maintain the same smooth reggae beat, one that makes you want to take a quick getaway to some sunny island where the water's blue and the breeze is perfect. Be sure to take a listen to "Don't Stop," the head-swaying tempo and the horn-laden beat puts one in an instant better mood.

Slightly Stoopid is currently playing this summer's Unity Tour with the alternative/reggae rock band 311 (with special guests SOJA and the Aggrolites on selected dates). They passed through New Jersey at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel Thursday night, where they rocked the crowd into a mellow mayhem (if that's at all possible). The band brought some old favorites into the mix including their cover of John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and their ultimate hit "Closer to the Sun."
