Melissa Rivers has spoken out for the first time since her mother Joan Rivers passing last month. The star passed away after undergoing a routine procedure at the Yorkville Endoscopy clinic on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. The star was rushed to the hospital after she stopped breathing on the table, but sadly passed away shortly after on September 4.
Melissa spoke to Rob Shuter of VH1's Gossip Table according to Fox News, where she talked about the sadness she is feeling over her mothers untimely passing, as well as her gratitude to all the fans that have supported her family through this difficult time.
"As my son Cooper and I mourn the loss of my mother, we want to thank everyone for the beautiful cards and flowers conveying heartfelt messages and condolences, which continue to arrive from around the world and through social media," Melissa explained in her statement.
"My mother would have been overwhelmed by the scope and depth of the love that people have expressed for her." Melissa continued. "It is certainly helping to lift our spirits during this time."
It was also reported earlier this weekend that Fashion Police, which Joan hosted, will be continuing on without the 81-year-old comedienne. As Mstars previously reported, the fashion critique show will start airing new episodes on Monday January 12, 2015 during a special Golden Globes edition.
E! News released the following statement about the status of the series.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Joan Rivers and, for the last two weeks, have turned our attention to honoring her memory on all of our platforms. We have also thought long and hard about what Joan would have wanted as it pertains to the future of Fashion Police," E! explained, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "We decided, with Melissa Rivers' blessing, that Joan would have wanted the franchise to continue. Fashion Police will return in 2015 commencing with Golden Globes coverage on Monday, January 12. No further details will be announced at this time."
