Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed on Saturday night that Jameis Winston will return to the team on Monday after serving a one-game suspension on Saturday during the Seminoles' game against the No. 24 Clemson Tigers. The often-troubled quarterback, who has been reprimanded in the past for several other mishaps, this time stood on a table in the university's student union and yelled an obscenity, reportedly mimicking a internet meme.
"He'll be back at practice Monday and be our quarterback on Monday," Fisher said.
The Seminoles will return to the field on the road against North Carolina State on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Originally, Winston was supposed to sit out for just the first half to the Clemson game, but according to USA Today, FSU's director of athletics and interim university president, Garrett Stokes, announced his decision Friday night via e-mail to suspend him for the entire game.
Fisher announced his decision to uphold the one-game suspension and reinstate Winston effective Monday during his post-game press conference following the Seminioles' 23-17 overtime win.
"At the end of the day we felt like the one game made the most sense, and I chose to keep that process internal," Fisher said. "Now he's served that punishment and he's ready to move forward.
"You never know the pace kids learn or why they make mistakes, but I hope and believe Jameis will learn from this and use better judgment and his language and decision making and respect for everything will continue to grow."
