Lollapalooza 2012 concertgoers had to to take a break on Saturday early due to severe thunderstorms. Thousands of music fans were evacuated out of the Chicago music festival hot spot before the storm poured.
Over 100,000 concert goers were guided out calmly.
A written announcement was posted on the official website stating, "Due to an approaching storm and warnings from the National Weather Service (NWS), Lollapalooza organizers have suspended the festival until further notice."
"Lollapalooza officials are continuing to ... monitor weather conditions and determine when the park is safe for festival-goers to return."
Texts were sent out to concertgoers who had downloaded the festival smartphone app.
"Our first priority is always the safety of our fans, staff and artists, " said Shelby Meade, a representative for promoter C3 Presents.
Less than three hours later, the weather became safe enough to resume the Lollapalooza party. Some concerts were cancelled while others were delayed.
"We want to thank the tens of thousands of festival goers, staff, and artists who calmly and safely exited from Grant Park today," Charlie Jones, partner of C3 Presents said.
