'The Strain' Recap: 'The Third Rail' Presents Corey Stoll, Kevin Durand, Mia Maestro Meeting 'The Master!'

Based on the best-selling Dark Horse Comics adaptation, Guillermo Del Toro's The Strain continues with another terrifying episode on FX. As the vampire apocalypse has taken over New York City, Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), Nora Martinez (Mia Maestro), and Vasiliy Fet (Kevin Durand) decide to group together against The Master in 'The Third Rail.'

Zach (Ben Hyland) records his father, Eph (Stoll), and the exterminator, Vasiliy (Durand) making the ultraviolet bomb. Unfortunately, Zach calls the experiment "an epic fail." After chasing after The Master for six decades, Abraham (David Bradley) has always been making a step forward, one step backwards.

Still wearing his orange prison jumpsuit, Gus (Miguel Gomez) returns home and finds his door unlocked. His brother is standing in the middle of the apartment room, transformed as a vampire. Gus grabs a baseball bat and stakes his brother dead.

Nora (Maestro) will not stay behind, while the others head out into the subway tunnels. Eph reminds her that the rat-killer and the old man with an ancient grudge have no plan B. Nora doesn't back down as she reloads her gun.

Zach is though stuck with Nora's mother, who desperately wants her cigarettes.To shut her up, Zach promises to go outside and her a new pack. The city is in a chaos as looting is an all-time high.  

Back at the apartment, Gus discovers his mother hiding in the closet. With her neck bitten, he knows she has been turned into a vampire. He apologizes for not being there and lets her live. Then Gus grabs an axe and chops off the head of his infected landlord.

The group travels deep inside the subways tunnels, heading straight towards the ruins of the World Trade Center. They end up near a vampire's nest, where Eph finds his ex-wife sleeping. As they continue on, the group has to hurry as an incoming train screeches by.  

While an argument escalates between Eph and Vasiliy, Zach heads into a grocery store. Just when he is about to grab the cigarette box, the store is being robbed. While hiding from the robbers, Zach finds a vampire lurking around in the basement. As the bloodsucker slaughters the thieves, Gus arrives to Zach's rescue.

Hypnotized by Kelly's voice, Eph ends up in the clutches of The Master. Nora has to save Vasiliy as he gets tangled by a swarm of vampires. The Master promises he will take everything from Abraham's pupil, even his son.

Vasiliy shows up and throws in the UV bomb. As the UV flashes burn up the rest of the vamps, the Master scurries away in pain. Angry that they failed to stop the Master, Abraham smashes the coffin he built with his hands. 

Zach return with Mrs. Martinez's cigarettes. While she lights up, Nora's mother cries when she sees Zach practicing, swinging the knife around. 

The group discovers the vampires' nest, realizing the Master has more than just a army; he has an entire nation. 

The group has finally met The Master and lost In The Strain. Readers, what do you think of 'The Third Rail?'
