After releasing X-Men: Days of Future Past and then announcing the follow-up project X-Men: Apocalypse earlier this year, Bryan Singer has finally been named the director of the 2016 movie. We learned of the release date a few months back, but the director's position was up in the air for quite some time. Plus, producer Simon Kinberg this week revealed some new plot spoilers and teased characters as well!
According to Deadline, Singer was attached to the project since announcing it, but his recent legal troubles made Fox a little hesitant to hire him. Thankfully, for a number of reasons, sexual assault charges have been dropped and the filmmaker can make this project.
Meanwhile, writer and producer Simon Kinberg opened up about some new character details for Apocalypse.
"The X-Men film that we're working on now as everybody knows is X-Men: Apocalypse and that really follows the stories of the let's say First Class X-Men," he explained. "Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, many others of that generation of X-Men. So, in future X-Men films? Perhaps, but in Apocalypse it will really be the continuation of the 'past' of Days of Future Past."
He added: "If we included some of the original X-Men, like Storm, Jean, Scott, and others, yeah we would have to recast them, because Apocalypse takes place a good twenty years before X1, which now insanely was fifteen years ago. It would be very hard to do."
