TruTV was always like that older brother you never wanted to hang out with. You know, because it was "old" and "not cool." But now it seems the network is tossing that persona to the wayside and promising to be "way more fun" in their campaign for the "New TruTV."
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the Turner-owned network is getting a fresh start this coming Oct. 27 and moving into the comedy genre. The network has just announced four new TV series along with the return of the popular show The Carbonaro Effect, starring comedian-magician Michael Carbonaro.
The network will launch Hair Jacked, Fake Off, How to Be a Grown Up and Friends of the People.
TruTV president and head of programming Chris Linn told THR, "It's no secret that our ratings are down, but this is a transitional year for us. We've not launched a lot intentionally, so when we flip that switch in the fourth quarter, our brand is consistent with new premieres that entire week."
Despite the success of shows such as the aforementioned Carbonaro Effect and Hardcore Pawn, the network's ratings are indeed down, which is mainly due to the fact that they find themselves in a constants struggle for an identity as a residual effect of the ever so popular Court TV era. However, with the new shows backed with the likes of Impractical Jokers and South Beach Tow, it seems safe to say that TruTV could very well succeed in delivering on their brand –– to be "way more fun."
We can't believe we're saying this but now it looks like we may want to hang out with that older brother. Oh boy...
