The Goldbergs, which is centered on the Goldberg family in the 1980s, returns for its second season tonight on ABC. To get you prepared for the hilarious sophomore season, we have the top moments to watch out for this season.
The comedy will return to ABC between The Middle and Modern Family on Wednesday nights at 8:30/7:30c this season. "I think there's no better timeslot for a family comedy. We're surrounded by two of the best family comedies on TV. What more could you want?" creator Adam Goldberg told TVGuide.com.
But what exactly will the Goldberg clan be up to? For starters, Adam (played by Sean Giambrone) will be in the school play of Jesus Christ Superstar. We could stop right there, but there are more funny things coming up in season two that we have to share. When Barry (played by Troy Gentile) tries to get a fake ID, we will get our first taste at cameos for this season.
When Barry attempts to get fake ID, he runs into none other than David Spade. "The funnyman will make a cameo as a Foto Fun employee who makes a little extra cash on the side," Entertainment Weekly reported.
In addition to cameos, there will be a lot of big '80s moments covered this season. "I always filter my life through '80s stuff and stuff from my childhood and things I love, so it just mixes in seamlessly," Adam explained to TV Guide.
The '80s tributes will include Princess Diana and Charles' Royal Wedding, which sparks Murray (played by Jeff Garlin) and Beverly (played by Wendi McLendon-Covey) to renew their vows and have a dream wedding of their own.
Back to the Future will also get a nod this season, after Adam tried to fit it in last season but wasn't able to make it work. "And yes, there will be a hoverboard," TV Guide reported. Barry and Adam will show off their rocker sides in an episode dedicated to Twisted Sister's hard rock song, "We're Not Gonna Take It."
You can also expect an od to New Kids On The Block in season two. Adam revealed he is holding out for the Beastie Boys in upcoming seasons, too. "I feel like I have to have the show on for a while before I approach them. You only get one shot at that and they're so protective of their music, as they should be. I don't want to go now and have them say no and that's it. If they were ever to let me use their music, I would do an all-Beasties episode."
One of the highly anticipated tributes this season is the tribute to John Hughes. Even though it won't be in the first 12 episodes of the season, a John Hughes episode is definitely in the works. "Part of me is me kicking the can down the road and knowing what an undertaking it will be to do something like a John Hughes tribute correctly. It's a lot of planning and a lot of getting the clips and getting permission and also trying to find the right story," Adam explained.
Adam also added that there would definitely be a shout to Mighty Ducks, which is one of his favorite trilogies. Fingers crossed we get a little Sixteen Candles and Brat Pack in the tribute.
Tune in tonight to welcome the Goldberg family back and see what hilarious situations they get themselves into.
