It's the haircut seen 'round the world — literally.
Ever since he stepped off the team jet ahead of this weekend's international Ryder Cup tournament with "USA" shaved into the side of his head, there's been a whole lot of buzz surrounding pro golfer Rickie Fowler's festive haircut — much more than he ever anticipated.
"It's gone a bit crazier than I expected," Fowler told USA Today on Wednesday. "Just thought I would do it for a little team spirit and knew the guys on the team would like it, and it's been fun to see the reaction of the fans and people, social media, guys on the European squad and caddies over there, as well."
According to USA Today, Fowler spent $50 on the now-infamous 'do at You Are Next Barbershop near his home in Jupiter, Fla.
The response that followed has been priceless.
"I know I've seen pictures of people back home getting a similar haircut. I saw one guy that got an "EU" on the side of his head. It's been pretty fun. It's all about showing spirit for country. This is just a different way of showing it."
PGA President Ted Bishop, for one, couldn't stand to be left out of the fun. He revealed via Twitter on Tuesday that he, too, had had "USA" shaved onto the side of his head.
"It's done," he wrote. "The Fowler USA cut! #I believe we will win."
Of course there have been some critics as well, but the good-natured Fowler has taken it all in stride.
"It's me being me," Fowler said. "I'm not trying to hurt anyone's feelings or turn anyone the wrong way. Just proud to be from the USA and be over here playing for the Ryder Cup team. If people take it the wrong way, it's too bad for them. It's unfortunate."
