Sarah Hyland Focusing On Work To Distract From Break Up With Matt Prokop After Filing Restraining Order

Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland is leaning on her costars and focusing on work following her break up with longtime boyfriend Matt Prokop. After filing a restraining order against Matt, the 23-year-old actress is just trying to move on.

On Sept. 19, Sarah filed a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend (who she started dated in 2009) after he allegedly chocked her and verbally abused her. Us Weekly reported that the court documents alleged that Matt pushed Sarah onto a car and gripped her throat among other allegations. "His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life," she claimed in the document.

After coming out about her volatile relationship, the young actress has been leaning on her cast mates for help and strength. Sarah's onscreen mother, Julie Bowen even intervened when things got tough during her break up from Matt in August. TMZ reported that Julie came to Sarah's house to help "peacefully end the relationship."

The couple met in 2008 and then starred together in Disney Channel's film Geek Charming in 2011. Matt also made a cameo in the Disneyland episode of Modern Family in 2012.

The Modern Family star shared a group photo of her TV family in honor of the new season premiere on Wednesday, proving that she is keeping her spirits high. "Tonight's the night!!! Season 6 premiere of #modernfamily on abc 9/8c!!!! I can't believe I've been working with this show for almost 6 years! I love these people with all of my heart and will never forget this blessing of a job ... Hope you all enjoy the new season!!" she wrote.

Us Weekly exclusively reported that the actress is now focusing on her work and putting the unhealthy relationship with Matt behind her.

"She's a strong girl. I have no doubt she will bounce back from this. She's been through a lot in her life, but she's still an amazing and strong person," an insider told Us Weekly.

The source added that she won't be ready to date for a while, but she is "focusing on work. She just wants to leave this situation behind her," the insider explained.
