He didn't even try to hide it.
Matt Harvey — the New York Mets rehabbing pitcher — attended Derek Jeter's last game at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night, and he let everyone know it when he posted a photo to Instagram.
"Tonight is about #RE2PECT!!" Harvey wrote. "Saying farewell and paying the man this game has been blessed to have! A childhood idol and it's now an honor to call a friend!!! #derekjeter."
Harvey's on the DL, so he doesn't travel with the team. And the Mets are in Washington, D.C. until tomorrow, so he had some down time.
But some argue he should have learned from Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, and saluted Jeter from afar.
Tulowitzki traveled to the east coast at the end of July to visit with a Philadelphia-based surgeon, and he popped into the Bronx to take in a game at Yankee Stadium while he was out there.
Tulowitzki's trip ignited all sorts of criticism and Twitter mayhem then, and the same thing happened with Harvey tonight.
The New York media and fans everywhere are having a field day.

From @charlescurtis82:
Doesn't everyone realize giving Matt Harvey crap for going to see Jeter's last game is the best way to drive him AWAY from the #Mets?
From New York Daily News columnist Ralph Vacchiano, @RVacchianoNYDN:
Giants-Washington is about to kick off. I promise to let everyone know if I spot Matt Harvey in the stands.
From @jenconnic:
@charlescurtis82 Matt Harvey just got everyone to talk about the Mets on Jeter night. Good for him.
From @ericssalomon:
There are more people talking about @MattHarvey33 being at #JetersLastHomeGame than there are talking about Jeter
