Returning for season 10, Bones premiered on FOX to a shocking demise. While Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) were digging into the McNamara conspiracy, Lance Sweets became a casualty of their investigation, which actor John Francis Daley calls "a grim moment."

In the aftermath of season 9, Booth (Boreanaz) was framed for the alleged murder of three FBI agents. Those FBI agents were actually trained assasins ordered to kill him. The cold opening started with Booth getting into two prison fight, against prisoners he helped put away.

The episode was really Sweets' farewell to his closet friends. In an interview with USA Today, Bones executive producer Stephen Nathan explains how the character was doing what he does best, "What I particularly liked was the manner in which Sweets went out. He went out caring first about Booth and Brennan. He was giving Booth a final bit of advice, because he knew how difficult this was coming back in and that he couldn't trust anybody."

Towards the end of the episode, Sweets died while trying to find the evidence that would clear Booth's name. His two closet friends knelt beside him and helplessly watched as he died in their arms.

The 29-year-old admits he actually cried like a baby after the "grim moment."

Daly reveals how his death was a emotional shared by his co-stars, ""I remember how it had choked up David [Boreanaz], shooting that scene, and Emily [Deschanel]. The former Freaks & Geeks actor continues, "Most of my 20s were spent on that show and, fortunately, it's an incredible family. The last day was sad and surreal for me."

Will Booth and Brennan seek revenge for the loss of their friend?
