The Philadelphia Eagles had a rude awakening last night — literally.
According to a report by SB Nation, the fire alarm went off at the team's San Francisco hotel at 2 a.m. local time this morning — 5 a.m. Philly time — hours ahead of their game against the 49ers later this afternoon.
"Fire alarm at Eagles hotel in SF went off at about 2:00 am PT," tweeted ESPN's Adam Schefter. "Nothing like an early morning fire alarm on the day of."
Everyone in the hotel was safe — it was just a false alarm — but that does not mean the Eagles players were not still rattled by the late-night disturbance.
"Which cruel cruel Niners fan pulled the fire alarm at our hotel?!" tweeted linebacker Emmanuel Acho (@thEMANacho).
Teammate Matthew Barkley (@MattBarkley) re-tweeted Acho's message, adding, "Make it stopppp."
A few hours later, after catching up on sleep, learning a few new details and giving it some thought, Acho insinuated that the disturbance could have been some foul play on the part of the 49ers.
"Apparently they only evacuated floors 4 and 9 during this mornings, 'fire alarm,'" Acho posted to Twitter. "Now I'm no mathematician but... #Eagles Vs. #49ers."
Upon learning of the news, fans took to Twitter to voice their reactions:
San Francisco-area resident @calderon11: "Harbaugh probably did it himself."
Writer for Standing O Sports @JohnHLloydIII: "Probably Harbaugh just like in Super Bowl"
Philadelphia-based sports fan @cmay13x: "did Heath Evans pull it?"
Professional sports handicapper @No_Limit_Sports: "Fire alarm at 3AM west coast time is not that big a deal. That's 6AM our time and half the guys on the squad are probably up then anyway."
Philadelphia's CSN Philly anchor John Clark @JClarkCSN: "Eagles were awoken at 2am in middle of night. Fire alarm went off in their hotel. Jason Peters will find that guy!"
