We literally can't contain our excitement for how perfect the Once Upon a Time season 4 premiere was. The Frozen storyline might just be the perfect thing to happen to the series since, well since ever. We have been waiting very very impatiently for the premiere ever since we found out Elsa, Anna, and Kristoff would be coming to Storybrooke at the end of season 3.
Without further ado lets get right into the recap because we need someone to talk about the how incredible it was.
While we have been a little bit scared of the series just recapping the events of the 2014 Disney film, our worries were quickly erased as we are introduced to Elsa and Anna on the eve of Anna's wedding. The sisters meet at their parents' graves to pay respect to them five years after their ship sank.
Viewers do get a glimpse into what happened moments before the royal's ship sank, something that fans of the film didn't get to see. The Queen of Arendelle was writing a letter to her daughters knowing that she needed to tell them something before her death. We however, don't get to know just yet what the important information was that the Queen concealed in a letter and tossed overboard in a bottle.
In the Arendelle that was, viewers get to see Elsa and Anna prepare for Anna and Kristoff's wedding, we even get a glimpse of the princess in her wedding dress, but the special occasion is soon turned to a somber occasion as Elsa finds her mother's diary which reveals that the trip she was taking before she died was to a place called "Mist Haven."
Anna then runs off before her wedding to continue her parent's mysterious quest to Mist Haven, which viewers find out is actually the Enchanted Forest.
As we catch up with the residence of Storybrooke, we see Regina dealing with the introduction of Robin Hood's wife Marian back into the new love interests lives. We can tell that throughout the season Regina is going to be dealing with the reemergence of her evil side and how she'll be able to get her happily ever back after it was ripped out from under her feet.
It seems that the queen's intensions are a little bit confusing, as she wants to go back in time to kill Marian, but then at the same time saves her from getting crushed by a killer snowman that Elsa created. Yup, that's right, Elsa doesn't know how to deal with being in Storybrooke and we all know what happens when the Queen gets frightened, she starts using her ice powers.
In order to deal with getting her happy ending back, Regina enlists the help of an old friend, the magic mirror, as she tries to find the writer of the Once Upon a Time book so that she can have them rewrite her fate to include a happily ever after.
While we don't get to see much in terms of Rumpelstiltskin this episode, we do see him mysterious waving his dark one dagger over a jar of magical liquid and causing a strange blue hat to appear, almost looks like Merlin's hat? Could the old wizard be making an appearance this season in Storybrooke?
At the end of the episode, Elsa sneaks into Mr. Gold's shop and finds a necklace on display that used to belong to her sister. We then find out what Elsa's main quest will be this season in Storybrooke, it will be for her to find her sister who never returned from her trip to Mist Haven.
We can't wait for next week's all-new episode when it airs on Sunday at 10 on ABC.
