"Jack & Diane" singer John Mellencamp admits that he isn't over his ex-girlfriend Meg Ryan while promoting his new album, Plain Spoken. The couple broke up in August, after dating for more than three years, but John isn't prepared to lay the relationship to rest.
While promoting his new album the 62-year-old singer told the The Associated Press, "I'm very happy with the time I've spend with Meg Ryan. She's a beautiful girl and I know that I will never, ever, ever be with a funnier girl than her. Not gonna happen," he said in the report via People.
The "Hurts So Good" singer started dating the romantic comedy icon in 2011 and he's the first one to admit that it isn't really over. "Nothing's over. Nothing's over. I never say die for anything. Do you ever quit on anything?" he told the publication.
"I'm grateful for the three and a half years we've been together," he added.
News of the couple's split came in August when Closer Weekly reported the duo had quietly ended things. E! Online reported distance was a factor in the couple's split. "Distance was reportedly a factor in the decision. The 52-year-old actress lives in New York City, while the 62-year-old rocker currently resides in Indiana," E! Online reported in August.
John clearly isn't giving up on his relationship with Meg, telling Howard Stern on his Sirius XM show The Howard Stern Show, "Meg's an angel." The "Small Town" singer continued saying, "She was just an angel sent to me at the right time. We tried to have a relationship for three years — long distance. We'll see what happens."
On Friday the "Pink Houses" singer appeared on the Today show and again sang Meg's praises. "Meg's an angel. She's an angel sent to me, and I'm very happy," he said. "And, you know, nothing's over 'til it's over."
The Sleepless in Seattle actress has yet to comment on John's continued love for her.
