Michael Phelps took to Twitter to apologize to his fans for his drunk driving arrest this morning in Baltimore, Maryland.
The 18-time Olympic gold medalist was caught speeding at 1:40 a.m. going 84 mph in a 45 mph zone, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority Police.
Phelps admitted to the arrest and took full responsibility saying, "Earlier this morning, I was arrested and charged with DUI, excessive speeding and crossing double lane lines ... I understand the severity of my actions and take full responsibility."
(3/3) I know these words may not mean much right now but I am deeply sorry to everyone I have let down.

Police also caught Phelps crossing the double-lane lines inside the Fort McHenry Tunnel.
"Phelps was identified as the driver by his driver's license and appeared to be under the influence," a police statement said. "He was unable to perform satisfactorily a series of standard field sobriety tests. Phelps was cooperative throughout the process."
In total, Phelps faces three charges by police: driving under the influence, excessive speeding, and crossing double lanes.
USA Swimming also released a statement today: "The news regarding Michael Phelps and his actions are disappointing and unquestionably serious. We expect our athletes to conduct themselves responsibly in and out of the pool."
This isn't the Phelps' first time in trouble with the law. In 2004, he was charged with a DUI in Salisbury, Maryland. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months of probation. Five years later, a picture surfaced of Phelps smoking marijuana with a bong.
He told CNN in 2012, "I'll make a million mistakes in my life but as long as I never make the same mistake again, then I've been able to learn and grow."
He ended his latest statement on Twitter with an apology to those who believed he would learn from his mistakes.
"I know these words may not mean much right now but I am deeply sorry to everyone I have let down."
Do you believe Michael Phelps or is he going to disappoint his fans again?
