Naomi Campbell Signed On For Recurring Role on Lee Daniels New Fox Hip-Hop-Centric Drama 'Empire'

Academy Award nominee Lee Daniels, who is known for Oscar-worthy films like The Butler and Precious, is now working with Emmy Award winner Danny Strong on a new hip-hop-centric drama titled Empire, which stars Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard. According to The Hollywood Reporter, supermodel Naomi Campbell has just signed on for a recurring role.

The sexy and powerful drama, set to air on Fox, is about the head of a music empire (Lucious Lyon, played by Howard) whose three sons and ex-wife all battle for his throne. When Lucious learns he has a disease that is going to render him crippled in a matter of three years, his sons begin to compete for control of their father's empire.

When the show debuts early next year, Campbell will be playing a woman named Camilla, who is involved in a steamy love affair with Hakeem, a much younger man.

"Naomi is a beautiful actress. Underrated in my mind," Lee told The Hollywood Reporter. "She will be wonderful as Camilla. I am truly thrilled to have one of my close friends join us."

Naomi is just as excited to join the cast. "It's an honor to follow in the footsteps of actresses like Halle Berry, Oprah, Gabourey Sidibe and Mo'Nique, and work with Lee Daniels," she said. "I'm looking forward to joining Lee and this amazing cast on set."

Gabourey, will also have a recurring role on Empire. Jurnee Smollett and Malik Yoba will join the cast as well. Empire will debut in early 2015 and feature original and current music, with Timbaland serving as songwriter and music producer for the show.
