"Breaking Dawn - Part 2" director spoke out for the first time since photos were released of Kristen Stewart cheating on Robert Pattinson with "Snow White and the Huntsman" Rupert Sanders. Condon spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the movie itself and of course about the scandal that is closely tied to the movie.
Condon said to EW, "The fact is, these are actors playing parts, and maybe it's not such a bad thing that people be reminded of that."
"Both of these actors gave heart and soul to the 'Twilight' movies, not only during shooting, but also by navigating so graciously the whole life-in-a-fishbowl aspect of the phenomenon. Above all they have always shown great respect for the fans who made these movies such a success. Now it's time that some of that respect be returned to them."
Pattinson and Stewart play inseparable onscreen lovers and will kick of promotion for the film this fall. Their characters Edward Cullen and Bella Swan have won millions of hearts. When they became a pair offscreen, millions of fans named Robstens supported and believed in their love story.
Now that the real life love story has been shattered, many Robstens, Twihards, celebs, and haters attacked Stewart. She even received death threats from angry fans.
At this very painful time, Pattinson and Stewart have moved out of the home they once shared, and have not been seen together. They will have to face each other no matter what their personal circumstances may be.
Rupert Sanders and wife Liberty Ross appeared outside together for the first time since the incident. They did appear distant and Ross was sans wedding ring in the photos captured, sparking rumors of a potential divorce.
Not one of the four people involved in the scandal have spoken out publicly since the very public apologies given by Sanders and Stewart.
Stewart published through People, "This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."
Sanders followed suit and wrote, "I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together."
Pattinson is due for two live interviews next Monday with "The Daily Show" and next Wednesday on "Good Morning America" in promotion of his film "Cosmopolis". It's inevitable that questions about the scandal will be asked.
Stay tuned for more updates.
