Ben Affleck is currently doing a press tour to promote his new movie Gone Girl, directed by David Fincher and adapted from the book of the same name. Of course, the actor has fielded numerous questions about Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice during this tour, and he did so again in an interview with Variety.
The site asked him if he finds a greater challenge in faithfully adapting a popular novel, such as Gone Girl, or in portraying one of the lead roles in a superhero movie, such as Dawn of Justice.
"Probably the comic book franchise, if only because Batman has been around since the 1930s and a fixed part of American culture," Affleck replied. "But, anytime you build a character when the audience has a firm belief on how it should be, like Fifty Shades or Star Wars...It can be an asset and a challenge. Anyone who did it would face that challenge. The truth is, it all melts away once people see the movie."
Affleck also briefly described the Batman costume in the movie and talked about how it compares to previous iterations in other movies. "Well, I don't know how the others have been," he said. "Anytime you have a costume that is restricting, the challenge is that it's got to look good but not look restricting."
What do you make of Affleck's remarks? Do you agree that it would be harder to play a superhero than adapt a novel? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments section.
