Rick Ross' highly anticipated fifth studio album "God Forgives, I Don't" was released on July 31, and since then the rapper has won high acclaim for what some consider to be his best work yet.
Now in its second week out on the streets, "God Forgives, I Don't" has sold a whopping 218,000 copies (just this week alone) as reported by Nielsen Soundscan.
About 90,000 albums were sold for $5 each through Amazon, a promotion which will be carried out through the rest of August. "God Forgives, I Don't" easily won the no. 1 spot on the Digital Albums chart this week.
This marks Ross' best sales week yet, even beating out the 198,000 copies sold of 2008's no. 1 album "Trilla." Ross has led the charts with past albums including "Trilla," 2006's "Port of Miami," and 2009's "Deeper Than Rap."
"God Forgives, I Don't" also snagged the no. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart this week, making this the Maybach Music Group rapper's fourth album to do so.
The number of Rick Ross albums to hit the no. 1 spot has beaten out a number of other chart-topping rappers, including Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg (who wishes to be referred to by his reggae alter ego Snoop Lion from now on). Both rappers have so far achieved three no. 1 albums. Ross still has a ways to go to catch up to hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, however, who currently reigns supreme with 12 no. 1 albums.
Ross' sales overcame Zac Brown Band's album "Uncaged," which slipped to #2 on the charts with sales of 39,000. Justin Bieber's "Believe" followed in third with 35,000 copies sold.
