The second week of Survivor is always tough because people are still getting to know each other. Alliances are in their infancy, so it's the easiest time for people to go back on their word. At the beginning of this week's episode, we see the fallout from Coyopa's first tribal council. Josh, who's supposed to be in an alliance with Baylor, voted for her instead of Nadiya. The first thing he did back at camp was to take Baylor aside and confess he voted for her only to strengthen their alliance. If there's one thing I've learned from watching Survivor all these years, it's that you never confess to anything — deny, deny, deny! And wait till you see what happens with John Rocker's ego ...
Back at Hunahpu, Jon and Drew are not endearing themselves to the other members of the tribe by showing off their strength. Of course, this makes Jeremy happy, who likens them to two cartoon characters. But wait — crisis! The flint is gone! Jon takes the blame for losing the flint and says that in Survivor you need to confess any wrong you do so the tribe will know you'll try hard to make it up to them.
Has he ever even watched Survivor? Like I said before, always deny!
Now, onto the reward challenge. Coyopa gets their first look at the Hunahpu tribe without Nadiya. Natalie breaks down crying after realizing her twin sister was voted out. She said it was the first time she has cried in 10 years. Yeah, we believe her ...
We find out the challenge is to maneuver three balls into three different holes, but with a lot of balancing first. John Rocker beats poor little Reed in rock, paper, scissors to get to pick who to play. John looks happier to win that than he did when he played in Major League Baseball. John picks himself to play, which is not that surprising since he's already way too full of himself. This means that, since this season is Blood vs. Water, he will have to take on his girlfriend Julie. Winner gets fishing gear for their tribe while loser goes to Exile Island.
Well, surprise, surprise — John loses to Julie and, in true, John Rocker, pigheaded fashion, is only upset about the fact that he lost to a girl. Have fun on Exile, John. We won't miss you.
Julie has to now pick someone from her tribe to join John, and she picks Jeremy. So time to go back to camp, right? Wrong! Reed asks Jeff if his tribe could trade the beans they won for flint they had lost. Jeff isn't having it, of course. He wants them to give up all their fishing gear for flint. In the end, they agreed to give up the gear for their precious flint.
Back at Hunahpu, Natalie breaks down again about her sister. Not a bad idea, getting sympathy from her tribemates ... Over at Coyopa, John's tribe realizes who he is. Yes, he's that pitcher. Josh really doesn't care about his past as long as he can use him on his team later on. We see Jeremy and John on Exile walking to pick out the immunity idol clue from the two urns. Jeremy knows who John is and about his bigoted past, but doesn't care as long John protects Jeremy. In turn, Jeremy will protect John's girlfriend. Jeremy shares the immunity idol clue with John, and thus a new bromance is formed.
Now it's time for the Immunity Challenge! Jeremy and John return. Oh, joy! We find out the challenge is the good ol' push-your-opponent-into-the-water game. The best battle was between Jon and John. Jon took down the John Rocker! It was great to see his huge ego deflated. The funniest moment had to be when clueless Drew started rooting for Josh. He had to be reminded that it's Reed who's on their team. Survivor never fails to disappoint.
Both teams end up with a 4-4 tie with one battle to go. It couldn't get any closer than that. Kelley beats Jaclyn in the end, and it's Coyopa going to the Tribal Council for the second week in a row.
It's scrambling time back at Coyopa. Val is freaking out because she thinks she's on the chopping block, so she needs that idol badly. After a talk at the well with Val and Jaclyn, where Val lies to John and says she has the idol, John goes off to try and find the idol.
Next thing you know, after some digging, he finds it! John decides to keep his word to Jeremy and lies to the other guys by telling them Val has two idols and is giving the other one to Jaclyn. His strategy is to give three votes to Baylor and three to Val, so Val plays her idol and stays. Problem is, Val doesn't have an idol! Josh sees John and Val going off alone together, which has never happened before. This makes him suspicious.
Time for council! Finally, we get our first fireworks of the season. Val and Baylor go at it, blaming each other for what happened at the last council. After voting, Val, of course, doesn't play the idol because she doesn't have it! In a shocker, the vote is a tie 4-4, so we go to a revote. Jeff reads the votes and Val is sent packing.
In the next scene, we see that John's past comes back to haunt him. Can't wait!
