Tom Hanks made Big famous in 1988 with his giant piano scene in FAO Schwartz and the style in which he ate mini corn. Now, Big is coming to television! Fox is planning on adapting the movie into a new TV series.
Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce, who previously teamed up for Fox's comedy Enlisted, are coming back together for Fox's new series Big. "The comedy, which received a script plus penalty commitment from Fox, is described as an event series based on the movie that explores what it means to be an adult and what it means to be a kid-and how in today's world, those two things are more confused than ever," The Hollywood Reporter learned.
The original film featured Tom Hanks as a 12-year-old boy who wanted to be big. He made a wish on the Zoltar machine and it magically came true. He then plays the part of an adult, gets a job and even gets a girl. Ultimately he knows he is still and kid and wants to go back to his old life. The series (which will be 30 minute episodes) will be loosely based on this story and will be both written and produced by Kevin and Mike.
Big's revival is one of many 1980s and 1990s hits making a comeback. Recently Lifetime aired The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story, about the 1989 high school show, Saved By the Bell. Disney created Girl Meets World with both Corey and Topanga from the 1993 series Boy Meets World. CBS has even ordered a reboot of the 1968 comedy The Odd Couple that will now star Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon.
There are also talks about a potential revival of ABC's Full House. According to Variety, "while nothing is set in stone, there's been talks at Warner Bros. Television about bringing back the sitcom, and some of its original cast for a revival nearly 20 years after the long-running ABC show had its finale."
