Jose Mourinho has a lot to deal with in the week leading up to an important English Premier League game, and this week has been no different. Jose's Chelsea will face Arsene Wenger's Arsenal. Jose is still unbeaten against EPL managerial rival Wenger, and he hopes to keep that record intact. But a racism row has erupted and added to Mourinho's to-do list. He has discussed the "Rooney Rule" used in the National Football League, insisting there's "no racism in football," and to English soccer fans, it has got nothing to do with Manchester United's Wayne Rooney.
The NFL is used to the "Rooney Rule," which Dan Rooney, owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, helped to implement. He believes the EPL should follow the NFL with regards to preventing racism.
He explaiend, "I would tell British clubs that if they would look at this openly they will find this is a positive thing. The plus side of this is you're increasing your list of people to look at and it would really work. I couldn't recommend it enough for the teams in Britain."
So, is English soccer a racist league? Of course not, and Jose couldn't stress that enough.
Mourinho insisted, "Football is not so stupid to close doors to people. If you are good, you get the job. If you are top, you are top."
Jose has never been one to shy away from the truth, and perhaps he's right, but then again, perhaps a "Rooney Rule" of sorts would help the EPL.
As Jose prepares for another clash against Arsenal, the EPL ponders taking an idea out of the racism plan the NFL implemented long ago.
