The Community actress might be saying farewell to her hit NBC comedy, but she is adding a new acting job to her resume. Yvette Nicole Brown is officially joining CBS' The Odd Couple.
TV Line reported that the Community star will now be a series regular on the new CBS reboot of The Odd Couple. "The actress – whose departure from Community was announced on Tuesday – has been upgraded to a full-fledged series regular on CBS' upcoming reboot," TV Line exclusively reported on Saturday.
The 43-year-old Brown was originally cast as a recurring role as Oscar's (played by Matthew Perry) assistant. She has now been upgraded to a series regular due to her recent departure from NBC's Community, where she played Shirley Bennett.
"My dad needs daily care and he needs me," Brown told TV Guide Magazine. "The idea of being away 16 hours a day for five months, I couldn't do it. It was a difficult decision for me to make, but I had to choose my dad."
The Odd Couple will star Matthew Perry as Oscar Madison and Thomas Lennon as Felix Unger. "Co-written and executive produced by Perry, Odd Couple centers on two mismatched roommates –– the messy Oscar Madison (Perry) and neat freak Felix Unger (Lennon)," Deadline reported.
The comedy reboot will be multi-camera operations as opposed to the single-camera show Community. Yvette told TV Line that The Odd Couple is "a better fit for the life I have now."
The Odd Couple was originally a theater production on Broadway and later made into a film in 1968. The film starred Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon. In 1970 it was made into a TV show starring Tony Randall and Jack Klugman It will now be coming back to television in 2015.
The reboot of The Odd Couple is a midseason show that also stars Lindsay Sloane as Emily and Wendell Pierce as Teddy.
