Phillip Phillips' "Home" was featured as the USA women's gymnastics Olympics 2012 theme song. The American Idol winner was awestruck by the amazing boost of sales following the Olympic feature. From #83, the song shot up to #1 in less than 2 days.
The busy singer has not even had time to digest all that has been going on.
The American Idol winner and fellow alums are currently on the Live! tour traveling the nation, so he found out through others that his song "Home" was being used in the Olympics.
"I really just found out through Twitter and my management texting me. I thought it was really awesome."
"It’s just crazy for me, and I’m trying to wrap my head around all of it."
Though the song is not exactly Phillips' preferred style, the singer admitted that the song has been growing on him.
"Each time I play it, I’m getting it more and making it more of me. The more I play it, I have a lot more fun with it," he said to Entertainment Weekly.
Phillips also said he's not looking to make music that gets popular and sells millions of copies. He's more interested in making music that truly represents him.
When Phillips was asked in the EW interview about performing One Direction with fellow American Idol alums, the singer responded with a heavy breath and "Yeah… uh no comment."
Phillip Phillips has a particular acoustic jazz-rock style that he is going for, and is happy to leave the chart-topping poppy sounds to the current reigning stars One Direction and Justin Bieber.
So, we can safely guess that One Direction is just not his style.
