Legendary singer Tony Bennett belted out "God Bless America" during the seventh-inning stretch of Monday night’s National League Division Series Game 3, which pitted the San Francisco Giants against the Washington Nationals at AT&T Park, and he did an amazing job ... until he forgot the words to one line.
"From the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans, white with foam," he should have sang.
Instead, we got, "From the mountains, to the prairies, to the oceans, bright with gold."
Fans inside the park "either audibly moaned or screamed 'foam,'" as the (New York) Daily News reported, but the Twitter world didn’t seem to care:
Look, if Tony Bennett says those are the words, THOSE ARE THE WORDS. — Erik Malinowski (@erikmal) October 6, 2014
Right with gold. Those are the words now. Tony Bennett has so decreed.

Getting slightly less airplay is the fact that, before he started singing, Bennett realized he still had gum in his mouth. So like the badass 88-year-old he is ... he spit it out onto the field:
Still, it’s OK. It’s fine. It’s allowed.
He’s Tony Bennett.
So he spits out his gum & changes the lyrics of God Bless America. He can do that because he is Tony Effing Bennett! pic.twitter.com/uP6B9RaPri

As if it’s not obvious how much fans love him already, he recently upped his street cred with the younger generation when he and Lady Gaga announced they were working on an album together. The record, Cheek to Cheek, hit shelves Sept. 27 and debuted at No. 1 on the charts.
