Archie Comics has presented us with a first look at their latest horror title starring Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Robert Hack present readers with a terrifying new tale, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #1.
As we mentioned here, Archie were able to mix their teen title with the zombie genre in Sacasa and artist Francesco Francavilla's Afterlife With Archie: Escape From Riverdale. Archie Andrews was on the run from the walking dead as they ravaged Riverdale's favorite hot spots. The zombie apocalypse came about when Sabrina brought back Jughead's dead dog to life.
For many reasons, we were very excited when we first heard the news about this new horror title. During the Special Edition: NYC convention, Archie held a special panel to promote their upcoming horror sensation.
Francavilla expressed his enthusiasm for Hack's artwork after seeing it firsthand, "I got a sneak peek at the pages. And yes, it will be pretty dark and Gothic. And it will be set in the '60s. It's not at the same time as Afterlife. It's not part of the same universe but it will as much scary and spooky, because Roberto [Aguire-Sacasa] is writing it."
According to the official Archie website, this is a "dark reimagining of Sabrina the Teenage Witch's origin. On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, the young sorceress finds herself at a crossroads. In this twisted coming-of-age tale, the teen must choose between an unearthly destiny and her mortal boyfriend, Harvey." Madame Satan, foe from her family's past, has stepped foot in Greendale to wreck havoc.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #1 hits stores on October 7. Readers are you excited to see the the dark side of Sabrina the Teenage Witch?
